Legends Of Rod & Reel TV Show To Feature Joe Bucher!

By Gary Ridderbusch Vilas County News Review

When it comes to fishing in the northwoods, most anglers would agree that Joe Bucher is one of the best on the water.  Bucher guided for years on Vilas County area waters, is the designer of top notch musky lure products, and also has a successful television show.

Now Bucher's reputation in the world of sportfishing has gained some new national attention.  Ron Schara Productions will feature Joe Bucher in its award winning "Legends Of Rod & Reel" TV show which airs nationally on the Outdoor Channel.

The show features legendary anglers from all over the world and alows those expert fishermen to tell their story in a one-half hour segment according to Travis Frank, media sales and web manager for Ron Schara Productions, based in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  "They are all legends" says Frank.  "They all have contributed to the sport in one way or another.  Joe Bucher has been very influential in the muskie fishing world in particular including being very educational through his speaking, guiding, writing, his tv show, and the lures he makes.  He has had such a positive effect on fishing all over".

Frank and cameraman Cy Dodson were recently in Eagle River filming Bucher at his home and on the water -- telling the story of one of the Midwest's best known fishing personalities.

Bucher will join some pretty elite company when it ocmes to the "Legends Of Rod & Reel" series.  Others who have been featured include such names as Bill Dance, Roland Martin, Al Lindner and Gary Roach.  "Some hunt muskies, some chase bass, others catch trout" said Frank.  "But they all share one thing in common -- they all are passionate about what they do and the speices they pursue.  That's what seperates them from the rest."

Bucher, who has lived in Eagle River since 1986, said he is humbled by the recognition.  "To be mentioned in the same breatch with those other anglers is quite an honor".  Joe has been involved in guiding, lure making, and hosting TV shows over the past 40 years and says he doesn't take anything for granted.  He has pioneered some of the top selling lure design concepts in the industry including such products as the DepthRaider, ShallowRaider, TopRaider, Buchertail, and Slopmaster Spinnerbait.  While humbled, Bucher said he feels honored to receive this recognition from Ron Schara Productions.  "I feel pretty good about this honor.  I don't think it's because of any one thing I've accomplished in fishing, but a combination of things I've done over the years."

This is not the first time Bucher has been recognized nationally.  He was inducted into the National Freshwater Fishing Hall Of Fame in Hayward as a Legendary Angler in 2000.  Frank says the feature on Joe Bucher will air on the "Legends Of Rod & Reel" series sometime in the spring of 2010.  The Outdoor Channel is available on both cable and satellite TV regionally as well as nationally.

Update:   Legends Show on Joe is due to air the week of March 8th on the Outdoor Channel.  Check your cable and/or satellite listings.
